Using DJI Go with your Drone

There are two apps DJI Go and DJI Go 4. DJI Go 4 is used to connect to Phantom 4 and newer drones like the Mavic Pro. The original DJI Go is needed to connect to Phantom 3 Advanced and Professional.

You should follow the sequence to connect to the drone as follows: 1. Connect the phone or tablet with the DJI Go app installed to the remote controller (RC) and unlock your screen; 2. Start the remote controller; 3. Then start the drone; 4. You should be prompted to connect to the drone with the apps you installed for the drone such as: DJI Go, DJI Go 4 or DroneDeploy.  Select DJI Go 4 for the Mavic Pro and DJI Go for the Phantom 3.

Your phone will start the DJI Go app.

The first time you connect with the app it will prompt you to authorize access as shown.

If everything is good you will see the prompt to Go Fly. If you do not see this then there was a problem with your connection, or connections sequence. Press Go Fly.

You will be given your aircraft or drone status as above. If you need new firmware you will be prompted to install. Similarly if you need to calibrate your Compass and IMU you will also be told to do so. The Position flight mode means you are set to P and GPS will be used to control your drone.

Scrolling down you should see Remote Controller Mode set to Mode 2. This is the standard setting for flying do not change this unless you know what you are doing. Mode 2 means joystick left is the throttle (accelerator) and left and right, joystick right forward and back and sideways flight.

Note: Radio Channel Quality is Poor because we are capturing this indoors.

As you scroll down more you get additional information on the drone aircraft.

Finally at the bottom of the menu on Aircraft Status you can format your microSD card directly via the controller.

When you exit the Aircraft Status menu you get into the main DJI Go screen. The top row shows that you are ready to fly by Vision (not GPS), drone battery 100%. On the right side are the settings for the camera.  On the lower left is a map, the blue dot is your drone location. To take a photo you can press the red button on the screen or the top right button on the RC.

If you click on the icon above the red shutter button with the two circular arrows you can switch between camera and video settings.

If you click on the X logo (blue) on the top menu you get to see the main controller MC Settings.

The key ones you need to modify are the Return to Home Altitude we set at 60 m.

The maximum altitude of 300 m and maximum flight distance of 2000 m.

Additional settings we have left as default like Remote Controller Settings.

As above.

This shows the battery conditions and warning default limits.

Gimbal settings at default.
